The planet earth is rich in resources waiting to be tapped. In the production of electricity for instance, there are available resources like wind, ocean current, rivers, waste, and heat coming both from under the earth and sun that are now being utilized. These are all renewable which means they are available over indefinite period of time. With the current concerns that the world now faces like the issue on carbon emission, dwindling reserve of fossil fuel and the renewed debate on nuclear energy brought about by the Japan tsunami aftermath which serves as contributing factor to the rise in fossil fuel price, the use of renewable resource for electricity production has become a priority in most countries.
There are advantages in using solar energy, a form of renewable energy which comes from the sun. Its use provides benefits not only to individuals but also to the government and more importantly to the environment. For families who are in off-grid areas, they can be provided with electricity through solar lanterns or panels. For the government, solar helps address concerns on energy security that is becoming more pressing as fossil fuel reserve dwindles. And for the environment, solar is a clean form of energy because it does not emit carbon. Its use in future years, along with other forms of clean renewable energy, would gradually help in attaining a low carbon environment for individual countries and eventually for the entire humanity.
The advantages of solar energy as viewed above will help not just individuals but the entire globe in general. However, shift from the traditional ways to high technological innovations may be a lot difficult and inconvenient especially for under develop and developing countries. Expertise, infrastructure and finances are among the factors that could hinder this technology shift. But with the reality the world faces, it is better to start early than be caught unprepared and cram when fossil fuel shortage is already in our midst.
